Product Overview
From the kilns of Design Studio 180 these sky or light blue glass knobs are created by cutting and stacking art glass in layers. The glass used is specially produced to have equal expansion and contraction characteristics so that the layers do not break when cooled. Then, these stacks are fired at precise temperatures and timings involving up to 10 different temperature steps. Then rapidly cooled from nearly 1500º to 1000º, and annealed for 8 to 12 hours. At this point, the formerly separate layers of glass are molecularly bonded into a single piece of fused glass. Each knob is individually handcrafted and there will be slight variances in shape and on the edge where the layers of glass meet.
